Do you know how much water is ideal for YOUR unique and beautiful body? I had no idea a magical number existed until I studied water (yes, water!) in my Nutrition Therapy program. Knowledge is power, so find your base number of ounces by simply dividing your body weight in half. If you weigh 150 lbs, your magic number is 75 oz daily for optimal function.
But like all things in life, we pay for our transgressions, so add an additional 8 oz for every cup of coffee, sugary drink or alcoholic beverage you consume. Or better yet, avoid them altogether (says the nutritionist).
One way to remember to hydrate is to drink a glass of water every time you use the bathroom. Another good rule of thumb is to drink 16 oz upon waking and a large glass or two between meals. Adding fresh lemon juice has the double benefit of making water taste great while also alkalizing your tissues (to counteract that cup of acidic coffee) and provides you with some collagen-boosting vitamin C (limit the lemon to 1-2 glasses a day to protect your teeth from the acidity). Sip only half a cup with meals to avoid "watering down" your all-important digestive juices. And of course, drink more when you exercise. Keeping your unique body properly hydrated is the cheapest, most effective way to more energy and glowing skin, so drink up!
BTW, this is a pretty photo but ALL of my clients know I would never recommend drinking from a plastic bottle - avoid the BPA, toxic chemicals and zenoestrogens at all costs by investing in a stainless steel or glass bottle!
